About Waymark Health
Interoperability, enterprise integration, and standards-based engineering for healthcare, built on experience serving hundreds of millions of patients worldwide.
Who we are
Waymark Health delivers interoperability, enterprise integration, and standards-based engineering. With experience building platforms for hundreds of millions of patients worldwide, we help organisations implement FHIR, modernise legacy systems, and unify clinical data.
We combine clinical expertise with strong engineering to improve patient care. As contributors to FHIR standards development, we don’t just implement healthcare technology, we help shape it.
Our approach
We take a practical, standards-driven approach to healthcare technology.
Discover
We look closely at your clinical workflows, systems landscape, and interoperability challenges to understand the real problem.
Design
We design clear, standards-based solutions aligned to HL7 FHIR, SMART on FHIR, and national clinical terminologies.
Implement
We build with quality, security, and privacy at the core, so solutions work in real clinical environments.
Validate
We test against real workflows with clinicians and validate interoperability with existing systems.
Transfer knowledge
We equip your teams with documentation, training, and ongoing support for long-term success.
Expert team and network
Steve Swinsburg
Founder and Principal Consultant
“I’m passionate about making healthcare data truly interoperable, bringing together FHIR, clinical terminologies, and real-world system design to deliver outcomes at scale.”
Steve is the Founder of Waymark Health, with over 20 years of experience in software design, development, and technical leadership. He has led high-performing R&D teams and delivered complex healthcare technology at national and international scale.
His work includes architecting clinical software platforms serving over 200 million patients, building high-throughput clinical data platforms, developing FHIR aggregation APIs that unify data from diverse systems, and applying deep expertise in clinical terminologies to design clinically meaningful data models.
He has played key roles in major initiatives including the Australian Government Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), the UK NHS GP Connect program, and New Zealand’s e-Prescribing system.
Steve is a recognised expert in FHIR standards and healthcare interoperability, and has led the development of nationally agreed FHIR specifications and driven real-world adoption across Australia.
Key expertise:
- FHIR architecture and implementation
- National interoperability programs and standards
- Clinical data modelling, semantic interoperability, and clinical terminologies
- System integration and API platform design
- Technical leadership and delivery
He focuses on practical interoperability, bringing together FHIR, HL7, clinical terminologies, and secure API design to achieve real-world outcomes for clinicians and patients.
Expert network
We work with a hand-picked team of specialists with deep expertise in FHIR standards, clinical terminology (SNOMED CT, ICD-10/11, LOINC, AMT, DM+D, RxNorm), clinical data repositories, systems integration, and project delivery. This lets us scale delivery where needed while keeping the quality and hands-on approach of a small specialist team.
Global Health Impact
Our team’s track record across the globe is the foundation for our solutions, built on real-world healthcare delivery experience serving hundreds of millions of patients.
Australia
Our team has delivered PBS and My Health Record integrations, national and regional health network connections, and population health initiatives across multiple states, with deep integration into Australian healthcare infrastructure including AMT terminology and national e-prescribing systems.
United Kingdom
We have extensive experience with NHS Trust integrations, GP system connections, GP Connect implementations, and shared care records solutions deployed across the UK healthcare system, with expert knowledge of UK DM+D terminology and NHS Digital standards.
New Zealand
Our team has contributed to NZ Formulary integration and District Health Board solutions delivering cross-system interoperability, including national e-prescribing systems and integration with New Zealand’s healthcare infrastructure.
Saudi Arabia
Our experience delivering national terminology standards enhancement and medicines repository systems serves millions across the Kingdom. We have built scalable clinical data platforms supporting national healthcare transformation initiatives.
North America
Our team has implemented healthcare network integrations and FHIR-based interoperability projects supporting care coordination across borders, with experience in US Core FHIR profiles, Canadian health systems, and cross-border health information exchange.
Global Standards Leadership
We are active contributors to international healthcare terminology standards and FHIR development worldwide, with strong working relationships with terminology organisations globally.
